Along with Kourabiedes cookies, melomakarona (syrupy cookies) are connected with Christmas and they are not missing from a Greek Christmas table.


Melomakarona is a symbol of these festive days and put us in Christmas mood!


Honey may be considered as a symbol of well-being and creation, two goods that everyone wishes for the new year, but honey is not allowed in a low carb or keto diet.

..but I have an alternative!


I have a perfect sugar-free syrup recipe for you to make syrupy, healthy and delicious "melomakarona" without honey!


These melomakarona are also vegan!


This recipe do not contain any gluten, sugar, eggs either dairy, so.. this Christmas every home must have the smell of cinnamon, cloves and orange!

Vegan Keto Melomakarona


Portions: 24

Ingredients:


300 ml / Keto syrup without sugar


100 g / Almond flour


50 g / Coconut flour

40 g / Golden flaxseed flour*


50 g / Shredded Coconut


110 g / Erythritol - stevia blend 1:1


1/4 tsp / Salt


5 g / Baking powder


1/2 tsp / Baking soda


1/2 tsp / Guar or xanthan gum or

1 tsp powdered gelatin


1 tbsp / Cinnamon


1 tsp / Grated cloves


Zest of 1 / Organic orange


100 g / Coconut oil


70 ml / Olive oil


10 ml / Brandy


60 ml / Almond milk


2 tsp / Homemade vanilla extract



• For the topping:


50 g / Chopped walnuts


• Instructions:

1 Prepare the keto sugar free syrup according to the recipe.

2 Preheat the oven at 170°C.


3 Prepare a large baking tray or baking sheet with baking paper.


4 Mix all the dry ingredients.


*Note:

• Golden flaxseed flour can not be replaced with grated flaxseed in this recipe because the dough will be crumbly and difficult to shape.


5 Add the remaining ingredients to the dry ingredients mixture and combine. Do not over mix because the dough will become dry and oily.


6 Make 24 small melomakarona, place them on the tray and make some holes in their surface with a fork.


7 Bake the melomakarona for about 25-35 minutes. After baking these cookies are very soft. Let them cool completely.


8 Dip the melomakarona, one by one in the warm syrup just for a while and then put them quickly off!


9 If you leave them too long in the syrup they will dissolve!

These melomakarona do not contain gluten flour or semolina and they absorb the keto syrup very fast.


10 Put the melomakarona on a festive plate and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
